Give your latest project a name that may appear to be an explosive cosmic event and, Definitely indeed, Maybe prospect run a little high. Philharmonic.

Add in a rhythm section that there another former Davis collaborator in bassist Marcus Miller and drummer Cindy Blackman Santana Richie Kotzen Signature Guitar, Who enjoyed with the Tony Williams tribute Spectrum Road(Another Davis union) Alex Lifeson Guitars, Plus you've got all the makings of that somewhat perilous musical concept, Your supergroup.

Supergroups have a long history and often battle to become more than the sum of their parts(See purple velvet Revolver, Audioslave). And while no band on this year's Bowl schedule has a more important combined artistic output, Mega Nova given the name, In order to Santana, In tribute to Shorter's 1969 album also offered only fleeting glimpses of its superstar components working together into a single whole.

See the most read stories in home theatre this hour on, Mega Nova was similar to something akin to a casual, Mid tempo jam program, Not unlike a similarly star studded bill that Hancock assembled at the Bowl in 2012 called honoring Peace, Which included as well Miller and Santana.

As Blackman Santana an additional percussionist laid into a clattering, Latin funk groove that could snugly fit most things in her husband's storied back catalog, Shorter's soprano saxophone explored the margins with Hancock's flickering piano as the band considered a jazz rock fusion that recalled John McLaughlin's Mahavishnu Orchestra.

The hyperlink felt natural as Santana recorded with McLaughlin on the fretboard burning 1973 John Coltrane tribute, "Enjoy, Commitment, Submit, That album's start Coltrane's"Acceptance" From the motorola milestone"A Love superior" Was also echoed later on wed as Shorter, Seated in the curvature of Hancock's grand piano, Made the significantly more rare shift to tenor saxophone to offer his own gently swerving nod to the late master. Behind Santana and cooper, The song too rapidly shifted into a more hip swiveling groove before the homage could coalesce.

Coltrane's legacy was further explored with a nod toward his program of Mongo Santamaria's"Afro blue colored" As Shorter turned to soprano saxophone, And the band also took on Hancock's early revolution"Melon Man, Which featured a slippery lead from Santana that gracefully turned into Shorter, Who many times gripped the Bowl crowd with his twisting, Asking yourself solos.

Perhaps most safely and effectively, Mega Nova also dipped into Davis' large 1969 album"In a muted Way, A landmark recording with an abundance of open ended avenues. In a nice ill mannered sonic moment, Hancock cut via the simmering rhythm with a spookily sharp keyboard texture Jimmy Page Tele Copy with Satin Finish 1, Which eventually turned into Davis'"It comes down to That Time" Forced by a purring bass clarinet by Miller.

But for all the surprise ventures into the jazz canon(No one in the band addressed the crowd show them themselves or their music over the night) Prs Explorer guitars on sale, It's perhaps inevitable that Santana's music drew top response. "Soul potential deterioration" Churned forward on the guitarist's lead but left little room extra ventures by Shorter or Hancock, And a dip into Santana's long-wearing cover of Tito Puente's"Oye Como veterans administration" Earned a roar of exposure.

Confusingly, The night ended on what typically would consider an evening opener in"The Star Spangled flag, Which Santana also teamed with his wife to cover before an NBA Finals game recording. Santana's lead offered a well-known fire but little of the fury of Jimi Hendrix's version Black and White Y2KV Copy, Which predictably all guitar covers of the anthem are measured against. It was a muddled close to a night regularly struggled to find a cohesive voice.

Today, Much of the bunch was quickly pulled to its feet in tribute. When the heavens call, What else ready do but answer?
